Engel, Nina (2 APR 1913 - 20 FEB 2002)
SPENCER - Nina Engel, 88, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Feb. 20,
2002, at Continental Manor in Abbotsford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United
Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Lois Takata will
officiate.
Burial will be in West Spencer Cemetery in the town of Sherman,
Clark County. Pallbearers will be great-grandchildren, Jeff Andres,
Austin Karl and Andy Karl, grandson-in-law Dale Andres, and nephews
Dale Thomas and Randy Sischo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Community Funeral Home
in Spencer and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
Nina was born April 2, 1913, near Christie, Clark County, to Arthur
and Bessie (nee Morse) Sischo. They moved to Greenwood where Nina
graduated from Greenwood High School. She received her Bachelor of
Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a
teacher's lifetime certificate.
Nina married Marvin "Mike" Engel in 1935. They built their home in
Spencer and started a nursery and built greenhouses. This was
accomplished during World War II. Nina taught schools in Clark and
Marathon Counties and was principal of a state graded school in
Riplinger. She taught in the upper grades at Spencer for seven
years.
She was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church and a former
leader of youth fellowship groups and taught Sunday School. She
loved children and loved playing games with them as well as putting
on the church's Christmas programs. She liked to oil paint, enjoyed
music (she played the organ), liked to write poetry and children's
books and fishing.
Nina is survived by her husband, Mike Engel two daughters, Kathleen
Landwehr of Spencer and Carol (Chet) Kowalewski of Hazelhurst her
son, Roger (Mary) Engel of Marshfield grandchildren, Lori (Dale)
Andres of Auburndale, Lisa Karl of Spencer, Jennifer (Kevin)
Swensen of Biron and Michelle Nelson of Unity and her
great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Andres, Austin and Andy Karl.
Nine was preceded in death by her parents one daughter, Becky Jean
four brothers and four sisters.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all of the staff at
the Continental Manor for the love and care they gave to Nina.
